Traditional Art vs Digital Art: My Honest Reflections as an Artist (Youtube Video)
As an artist who works in both traditional watercolor and digital tools like Procreate, I often find myself reflecting on how different – yet connected – these two worlds really are. In my latest YouTube video, I share my personal thoughts on traditional vs digital art, the pros and cons I’ve experienced, and how I balance both in my creative journey.
🎨 My Experience with Traditional Art
Traditional art has always felt like home to me. The sound of a brush moving across paper, the flow of water and pigment blending in unpredictable ways – it’s a tactile, grounding process. There’s something deeply meditative about creating with your hands and seeing a physical piece of art come to life.
At the same time, it’s not always easy. Supplies take space, mistakes can’t always be undone, and projects require patience. But maybe that’s part of the beauty – each painting feels like a unique, irreplaceable experience.
💻 My Experience with Digital Art
When I first began exploring digital art, I saw it as the opposite of traditional painting. But over time, I’ve realized it offers a different kind of freedom. With tools like Procreate, I can experiment with color palettes, undo mistakes instantly, and create client-ready illustrations with speed and efficiency.
Still, digital art can sometimes feel “too perfect.” It lacks the happy accidents I love in watercolor, and I miss the tactile connection of brush and paper.
🔄 Finding Balance Between the Two
Instead of choosing one over the other, I’ve found value in embracing both. Traditional art keeps me rooted in fundamentals and connected to the physical act of creating. Digital art, on the other hand, helps me expand possibilities, share my work more easily, and teach my students in new ways.
For me, it’s not about traditional vs digital – it’s about how each enriches the other.

✨ Final Thoughts
Every artist’s journey is different. Some may prefer the timeless charm of traditional art, while others thrive in the endless possibilities of digital. For me, the sweet spot lies somewhere in between – where paint meets pixels.
I’d love to hear your thoughts: Do you prefer traditional or digital art? Or, like me, do you find yourself moving between both worlds?
